a base camp is a starting point for big adventures.
it’s a safe space from which you set out to do hard things.
and that is what my coaching feels like.
Hi - I’m Rachel.
I’m a strength and conditioning coach, mountain athlete, dog-mom, regular mom, and human who will never show up anywhere without snacks.
I’m also not a gym rat.
I’m not training to lift the most weight, build a “perfect” physique, or win the fitness game on the ‘gram.
I train because I want to be that 80-year-old woman still playing in the mountains decades from now .
Hiking up a summit scramble with a thermos of coffee and flaky croissant.
I guess you could say I’m training for the long haul. Like… a really long haul.
And that philosophy shapes everything about my coaching.
I’m not in the gym to f*ck around or impress anyone.
I’m in the gym to build a lifetime of athleticism.
And I’d love to help you do the same.
In short:
my origin story
Like all babies, Base Camp Wellness was created by two puzzle pieces coming together at the right time.
1️⃣ Frustration of being stuck in an endless injury-rehab-repeat cycle.
2️⃣ My struggle to find a coach who was truly focused on performance and resilience…rather than aesthetics, weight loss or body changes.
I loved trail running, hiking, skiing, and biking…but years of going hard without proper preparation left me sidelined often.
And after a particularly pesky injury, I decided I didn’t want to just rehab again… I wanted to get strong for the long haul.
What I didn’t expect:
strength training changed my life.
I felt capable, confident, and connected to my body.
I recognized my strength, power, and resilience.
I showed up differently in every area of my life.
And in a culture that still pushes women to shrink, tone, shut up and be less…I wanted different.
I want women to feel like, and see themselves as, athletes.
Base Camp Wellness was created to help outdoorsy folks build real strength - the kind that supports adventure, longevity, and self-trust for the long-haul.
I don’t think you need training that eats up hours of your week or leaves you exhausted, burnt out, and too sore to function the next day.
I think you need…
TBH my coaching hits different.
here’s why:
Simplicity meets purpose.
You don’t need endless exercises. You need the right movements, done well.
Build skills & self-trust
That comes from getting the reps in and coaching support. Confidence in your form, choosing weights, and adapting training to fit your life.
Seasonal thinking
Instead of trying to stuff your life into a cookie-cutter plan, your training should change with your season of life or sports.
Long-term resilience
We’re building muscles, bones, connective tissue, and nervous systems that can handle decades of adventure.

a final word.
The fitness and outdoor industries have long centered a narrow definition of who belongs (often… white, thin, able-bodied, cisgender people). And that’s simply not acceptable. Fitness and bodies are, and have always been, political. So, here’s where I stand.
I believe black lives matter
I want to know your pronouns and preferred name
I believe love is love - and LGBTQ+ love is beautiful
Science doesn’t apply only to exercise physiology. It extends to vaccines, gender affirming care, reproductive healthcare and supporting research.
No human is illegal (especially when the lands we live and recreate on were stolen from indigenous peoples).
Health isn’t a mirror of your morality. It’s not defined by a look, and cannot be solely determined by behaviors. Health is affected by wide ranging systemic & socioeconomic factors - not “laziness” or making “good or bad” choices.
The ability to train consistently isn’t based on willpower - it a lot easier when you have money, reliable childcare, transportation, and are not working multiple jobs. These things have been kept out of the hands of marginalized populations for centuries.
I believe that you belong here- in the gym, in the mountains, and in this community.
You deserve a safe space to show up regardless of skin color, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion - and I’m committed to do what I can to create one.
